One day Grace Wesley saw a sign outside a church saying “who do you say I am”. These six words rocked her to the core. Who was did she say God was?
Who do you say God is? Is He your father or friend? Who do you say God is when the bottom falls out, when life is hard and you don’t know if you want to get out of bed?
Who do you say God is when life is going great and you feel invincible?
Who do you say God is when you face a terminal diagnosis?
Who do you say God is when you’re hiding under a desk while the world is literally shaking apart around you?
Who do you say God is when you’re standing on a mountaintop admiring the beauty of creation?
Who do you say God is when you’re carrying the coffin of a loved one on your shoulders?
Who do you say God is when someone is pointing a gun at you asking if you believe?
Who do you say God is when you stare into the eyes of someone you love?
Who do you say God is to your non-Christian friends when they ask you about your faith?
Malachi 3:6 – “For I, the Lord, do not change.” God is unchanging. He is the same through time. His character doesn’t change when our circumstances change. The only thing that can change in those moments is who we say God is.
Is who you say God is different when the wheels of life are running smooth to when they fall off? If so, ask God to reveal to you why this is. Perhaps there is something about God’s character you don’t fully understand or you don’t trust God completely. When the storms of life come we can so easily be shifted in our thinking, blaming and cursing God for whatever has happened. We may even claim that God doesn’t care.
Who do you say God is when you are in a storm?
Who do you say God is when the seas are calm?
