For so long Abraham had held onto God’s promise of having descents more than the stars in the sky and the sand on the beach. Becoming impatient he compromised, falling at possibly what was one of the final hurdles before him and his wife conceived a baby. The rest is history.
When the enemy senses you are on the verge of breakthrough his schemes to derail you will ramp up. He wants to see you fall at that final hurdle. He wants your test to never turn into a testimony. He wants you to compromise. The bible warns us of such attacks. Galatians 5:7 says: You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth? (NIV)
Hebrews 10:35 tells us to not cast away our confidence which has great reward. The writer of Hebrews is urging you to not compromise, to keep your trust (confidence) in God and what He has planned for your life.
Having been single for over 10 years I wondered when I would come out of the wilderness of singleness and into the promised land of marriage. For me I knew through prophecies and dreams that I would one day marry, however that’s not the case for all of us. God has different promised lands set out for each of us. Anyway I digress… In October last year I met a guy from Georgia. He was attractive, seemed nice, believed in God and had a great accent. We went on a couple of dates then I went to Australia for a holiday. While I was away I prayed for God to silence this guy if he wasn’t in God’s plan for me. It has turned out to be one of the most important prayers I prayed. From the day I prayed that prayer I never heard from the guy again. Two weeks later I met my now boyfriend. He too is attractive, nice, believes in God and has a great accent. But on a whole different level. I know he is the one God has set apart for me. The other guy would have been a compromise.
This testimony highlights how alert we must be especially when we think we are on the verge of breakthrough. What can look like our breakthrough could be something the enemy has dressed up for us, trying to entice us to fall just before God has appointed us to fly.
Can you think of a time when you were on the verge of breakthrough and the enemy put something in your path to cause you to fall? What happened? Did you fall at the final hurdle or did you soar?
