Most of us will go through times in our lives that we would describe as "enduring unbearable and unendurable suffering" due to physical or mental or emotional pain. But is that a reason to be able to use assisted suicide (because that's what euthanasia is) to die?
I know people who have medical conditions which will eventually cripple them, either mentally physically or both. I can understand when the point of suffering becomes too great to feel that one can carry on, especially for medical conditions where brain function is an issue (I’ve seen first-hand the loss of brain function through a family member suffering from Parkinson’s disease). But where do you draw the line for which medical conditions justify the use of euthanasia? Or should the line even be drawn at all?
Is assisted suicide denying God of the ability to do a miracle and give the world a testimony of His power and glory? Is one in a 'sound state of mind' to be making life ending decisions if they're "enduring unbearable and unendurable suffering"? In the Netherlands after you turn 12, without needing any family input, you can request to be euthanized. They assess the eligibility for euthanasia based on “enduring unbearable and unendurable suffering".
Just some of my thoughts on such a massive and controversial topic. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Perhaps you’ll challenge my thinking around euthanasia.
